Well; dear listeners, 40 years of Chris Hinze... What shall I say...? If you have to believe the press release, I’ve been around for quite some years now. Finally an anniversary; but I don’t like anniversaries... So; No anniversary for me! They also write that I’ve recorded over 70 albums... That could be. But inherent in our profession you always look ahead, and you’re always working on a new production for the next season. And… I allways have plenty of ideas!
The theatre tour with Claron McFadden was the cause for (among others, due to her enormous many-sidedness) making a compilation CD very varied in styles. We actually only wanted to make a compilation CD with pieces that I’d recorded with her on several CD’s in the years before. But the addition of Majid Bekkas to the tour and the enthusiasm of all musicians made me decide to record more new pieces. The result: A CD with styles that vary from Baroque to Jazz and from Dance to world music. A CD that goes against all laws when it comes to saleability or so-called commerciality... So be it!  Not an unknown area for me...Anyhow it has at least become a production that clearly reflects who I am and what I am from the music point of view. You as a listener probably couldn’t care less, because you wouldn’t have bought it otherwise.

PS: After having chosen not to play baroque adaptations for more then 30 years, (by the way, this was a very lucrative activity at that time, so with dismay of the record companies back then) fate wanted me to make an exception this time. Claron McFadden was the reason to do such thing again, and as you listen to the “Largo” and the “Badinerie”, you understand why.

Tibet Impressions / Visual concerttour [2006-2007]

Whether he’s touring with his group 'The Chris Hinze Combination' or with 'Visual Concert', one thing is for sure; music is central to the life of flautist, composer and traveller Chris Hinze. For more than 25 years Hinze has been making world music, and communicating musically with other cultures.
On his long journeys through Tibet he not only collected fantastic music – see his successful CDs 'Tibet Impressions I and II' or 'Chris Hinze and the Gyuto Monks Live on Tour' – but also beautiful images. Fascinated by monasteries, the monks and their songs, the Dalai Lama and the people of Tibet, in 1993 he produced his first Visual Concert performance: inventive playing, on various types of flute, brilliant images and personal stories. In 2006 he has persuaded the renowned Berlin photographer and world traveller Kai Uwe Kuechler to join him on a unique tour of Dutch and German theatres.
Kai Uwe Kuechler, who has made a profession of his hobbies, travel and photography, is one of the best and most requested presenters of illustrated lectures in Germany. Not only are his photographs and travel stories published worldwide in magazines and journals, but he has produced a number of illustrated books on South Africa, Iceland, Tibet and The Andes, to name but a few. Two new books about Tibet and Iceland will be published shortly.

The programme 'Tibet Impressions – a Visual Concert', transports you to the unknown and fascinating world of the Tibetans, their monastic communities and their lives amidst the overwhelming surroundings of the Tibetan landscape. Breathtaking images (impressions of the journey) are shown on a big screen in combination with hauntingly beautiful Tibetan sounds. After rapper Raymzter approached Chris Hinze to work with him on his new single + clip ‘Vechten Op Het Schoolplein’ (Fighting In The School-yard), the two musicians hit it off so well that the idea of working together again could not be ruled out. With the versatile Moroccan vocalist Rajae el Mouhandiz and The Band the concert tour 'Serieuzere Zaken' (More Serious Business) soon evolved.



Flautist Chris Hinze:
3 times an Edison winner, known for, among other things, his successful projects such as Tibet, Tai Chi and Zen, but also the brain behind the super-swinging jazz/dance/hiphop formation ‘The Chris Hinze Combination’.

Rapper Raymzter:
Winner of the 'Grote Prijs' in the Netherlands, very popular for his penetrating lyrics. His hit 'Kutmarokkanen' brought him national and international recog-nition.

The Chris Hinze Combination 'Back On The Map' [2006-2007]
A combination of jazz, dance, funk & world music
featuring Susana Dé

The Chris Hinze Combination is 'back to the roots' with a stunning new sound! A combination of jazz, dance, funk & world music, in which flute and vocals have a central role, supported by a swinging rhythm section. Chris Hinze shares the spotlight with the German vocalist Susana Dé, who won the National Jazz Soloist prize in 2003. Coen Molenaar (who has worked with Edsilia Rombley, Deborah Carter en Jan Akkerman, among others) is on keyboards, with Remco van de Sluis (The Lau, Sister Sledge en Jan Akkerman) on drums and the versatile Dutch cellist Djoeke Klijzing. Last but not least Chris Hinze on flute and keyboards.
Here’s a short flashback for anyone who has lost the plot: The CHC was a so-called fusion band in the seventies, with a primarily American influence, working with John Lee, Gerry Brown, Roger Cooke, James Batton, The Brecker Brothers en Larry Coryell among others. The eighties brought the band more ethnic influences from Africa and India and Chris Hinze played with Peter Tosh, Robbie Shakespeare, Sly Dunbar, Don Burrows, Trilok Gurtu, Ramesh Shotham, Fode Youla, Arto Tuncboyaci, Lelo M’Batchi et al.
